Two Young Men Killed in Portland Three-Vehicle Collision

Portland, Jamaica

A tragic collision on the Snow Hill main road in Portland has left two young men dead and several others hospitalized, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Portland Traffic Department.

The deceased have been identified as 25-year-old Jahmali Morris, a delivery man from Grossett Road in Port Antonio, and 22-year-old Oshane McGhie, an electrician from Zion Hill, also in Portland.

According to reports from the Port Antonio police, the crash occurred around 1:45 am on Friday. A 2007 Toyota Caldina was heading west along the main road when the two motorcycles — traveling in the opposite direction — reportedly lost control and collided with the vehicle.

Both Morris and McGhie had passengers on their motorcycles at the time. All individuals involved sustained multiple injuries and were rushed to hospital. Morris and McGhie were later pronounced dead, while the pillions and the driver of the Toyota Caldina remain in hospital receiving treatment.

Police have not yet released further details about the condition of the injured or whether speed or poor road conditions played a role in the collision.

The Portland Traffic Department continues to investigate the cause of the accident.

Our Opinion

Another preventable tragedy has robbed families of two young lives. This incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced road safety awareness, particularly for motorcycle operators. Whether it was speed, misjudgment, or poor road visibility at that hour, we hope the investigation provides clarity — and that it leads to more vigilance from all road users.
