A 44-year-old taxi driver will serve 33 years and 8 months in prison after pleading guilty to repeatedly raping, trafficking, and sexually exploiting his daughter, stepdaughter, and a minor girl who lived next door.
The man’s total sentence adds up to over 100 years, but the court ruled the time will run concurrently, meaning he will serve just over three decades behind bars before being eligible for parole.
The Chilling Truth Behind Closed Doors
According to court documents, the man began molesting his daughter shortly after her 12th birthday, telling her it was “okay” because they were related. He had already been abusing his stepdaughter for years — starting when she was in Grade 5.
In a devastating twist, he also began trafficking the girls to a friend, who paid him to rape them — sometimes while he watched. The friend was reportedly helping pay the man’s legal fees after he was charged with raping another young girl in the community.
His crimes came to light when the daughter’s mother discovered a video he had sent to their child, showing him raping her. The police launched an immediate investigation that uncovered years of horrific sexual abuse, recordings, and manipulation.
Predator in Plain Sight
During his arrest, the man tried to crash a police car into the river near Flat Bridge and attempted to push a police officer into the water, declaring:
“Mi a go kill off everybody tonight. If unnuh nuh kill mi, mi a go kill unnuh.”
Despite this, police subdued him and obtained a full confession, including claims that he shared videos of the abuse and lured boys to the home under the pretense that they could engage with the girls if they paid and allowed it to be recorded.
Sentencing Breakdown
Justice Bertram Morrison sentenced him as follows:
-
33 years, 8 months – Rape, sexual assault, unlawful sex with a minor
-
15 years – Human trafficking
-
10 years – Child pornography production
-
10 years – Incest
-
3 years – Assault occasioning bodily harm
While the total exceeds 100 years, the concurrent sentencing means the longest term is what he will serve.
The Impact on Survivors
In heart-wrenching statements, the girls described their fear, manipulation, and feelings of shame and isolation. They expressed relief that their abuser was finally caught, but said their lives were forever changed.
The courtroom reportedly fell silent in shock as the full details were read aloud.
Our Opinion
This case exposes a deeply disturbing truth: sometimes, the greatest danger to a child is inside their own home. That this man was able to commit these crimes for years — while posing as a provider and guardian — should frighten every Jamaican and push us to do more.
We must teach children how to speak up, train adults to recognize red flags, and ensure the justice system remains unforgiving toward predators.
This is not just a court case — it’s a national wake-up call.
