KINGSTON, Jamaica |
The accused, Natoya White, a site attendant of Wellington Street, Kingston 14, was charged with using a computer for malicious communication stemming from an incident that occurred on Thursday, May 22.
According to reports from the Denham Town Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), the accused and the complainant were involved in an argument around 3:03 p.m. that day. Shortly after, White is alleged to have uploaded a graphic video of the complainant to her WhatsApp status, leading to public exposure and emotional distress.
The matter was officially reported to the police on Wednesday, June 11, triggering a criminal investigation. White complied with a police request to turn herself in and was later charged after a question-and-answer session.
She is expected to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday, August 20.
Our Opinion
This case underscores the growing relevance of digital responsibility in the age of instant sharing and social media outrage. Posting graphic or private content with the intent to shame, harm, or retaliate is not only unethical but also carries legal consequences in Jamaica. Regardless of personal disputes, individuals must understand that social media is not a tool for vengeance — especially when it involves someone's dignity or safety. We commend the authorities for acting decisively and hope this serves as a warning to others misusing digital platforms.
