MAN SHOT DEAD IN ST JAMES HOME INVASION

A terrifying home invasion in Spring Garden, St James has left a man dead and a community in shock.

The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Esroy Parker, an excavator operator, who was reportedly robbed and then fatally shot inside his own home on Friday, June 6.

According to reports from the St James Police, the chilling incident occurred around 2:20 a.m., when armed men broke into Parker’s residence. The intruders demanded money, took an undisclosed sum, and then opened fire, shooting Parker multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Despite being rushed to hospital, Parker was pronounced dead upon arrival.

His murder strikes a particularly disturbing chord, as St James had recorded only one murder last month signaling a rare period of calm in a parish that has long struggled with violent crime.

This latest killing threatens to upend those hard-won gains, raising concerns about a possible resurgence of targeted home invasions and violent robberies in the area.

Police Investigation Underway

Law enforcement is currently pursuing leads and urging anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone with tips is asked to contact Crime Stop at 311 or the nearest police station.

Another Life Lost to Gun Violence

This brutal attack underscores the continued vulnerability of working-class citizens and the brazen tactics used by criminals. That a man could be murdered in his home after simply being robbed reflects the cold-hearted nature of many of Jamaica’s violent crimes.

OUR OPINION

While it’s encouraging that murder rates in St James had dropped recently, this tragedy is a grim reminder that more must be done to address gun trafficking, organized crime, and community surveillance. Parker’s death is not just a number — it's a life lost, a family shattered, and a community shaken.
