St. Andrew Resident in Custody After Fatal Dispute with Neighbour

St. Andrew, Jamaica  Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred this morning in Papine, St. Andrew, where a disagreement between neighbours ended in tragedy.

The incident took place shortly after 7:00 a.m. along Tavern Avenue, resulting in the death of 57-year-old Norris Farquharson, an employee of a local utility company. The alleged shooter, who reportedly lived at the same address, is now in police custody.

According to reports, a confrontation occurred between the two men in the shared yard where they both lived. The disagreement, believed to be about property boundaries, quickly escalated. A video circulating online shows an argument taking place in the lane outside the premises. Farquharson, wearing a workman’s uniform, is heard insisting they were no longer on the property, but in a public area.

During the verbal exchange, tensions rose. The footage shows the suspect stepping back, allegedly reaching into his waistband, and then firing at Farquharson, striking him twice. Farquharson collapsed on the spot.

Eyewitnesses can be heard reacting in shock as the suspect reportedly continued speaking after the shooting. Residents quickly responded to the scene and called for help.

Farquharson was transported to the University Hospital of the West Indies, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has since confirmed that the suspect is in custody and that a formal investigation is underway. Detectives are reviewing the video evidence and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has additional footage to contact their local police station.

Community members have expressed their sadness over the incident, calling it an unfortunate example of how neighbourly disputes can turn violent. Support has been extended to the family of the deceased, and authorities are urging calm while investigations continue.
